China Increases Punishments for Labs Hiding Infectious Diseases

The Chinese government passed a “biosafety law” on Sunday, with new procedures and restrictions set to take effect in April. Among other measures, the law ostentatiously increases the criminal penalties for medical facilities and individual staffers who “conceal, falsely inform, delay or omit the reports of infectious diseases.”

White House Now Approves FDA’s New Rules that May Delay Virus Vaccine

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), overcoming the White House’s initial opposition, released new safety guidelines Tuesday for drugmakers working for months on developing a Chinese virus vaccine. The move could prevent or delay introducing a potentially safe and effective final product before Election Day and beyond.

Chief of Russian Space Agency Claims Venus as ‘Russian Planet’

Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, claimed on Tuesday that Venus is a “Russian planet” because “our country was the first and only one to successfully land” there. Venus suddenly became a more desirable tourist destination this week with the announcement that possible signs of microbial life have been detected in the atmosphere.
