National Security Advisor John Bolton’s Departure Celebrated by Iran

Iranian officials and state media expressed great pleasure at the termination of U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, a trenchant critic of the Iranian regime long derided by Tehran as a “warmonger.” The Iranians appeared confident a softening in U.S. policy would accompany Bolton’s departure.

The U.S. will  "squeeze" Iran "until the pips squeak" through the tough new round of trade sanctions now in force, National Security Advisor John Bolton promised Tuesday.

The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday announced sanctions against Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, on the grounds that Zarif acted on behalf of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, himself a sanctioned individual, and coordinated activities with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Trump reacted to the news that Iran had breached the limits on enriched uranium set by the Iran Nuclear deal.”They know what they’re doing, they know what they’re playing with, and I think they’re playing with fire,” Trump said.
